Showcases
Regular Showcases are an important part of The Drama School calendar because every student is invited to perform and show some of their work to an audience of family and friends.
The Showcases are held in the adjoining Church which has a stage and comfortable seating.
Students may show Examination Acting Scenes, Poetry, Prose and Public Speaking, Extracts from Plays in Rehearsal as well as Musical Selections.
The whole Drama School community is involved and brought together for a celebration of the students’ work. These are very happy and exciting events in which older students support younger performers who in turn learn from the more experienced actors and musicians.
Plays
All our Groups are given the opportunity to do a play and many groups enjoy them so much that they do many plays whilst they are at The Drama School.
Students help to choose the Play and put themselves forward for the roles they would like to play.
During the Rehearsal Process, the actors are encouraged to be part of the creative process in every way. They are able to experiment with ideas and asked to help make choices. Exploring the whole play and participating in bringing their production to an audience is hard work, but exhilarating and hugely rewarding.
Our extensive Costume and Props Department provide costume choices for all our plays and greatly add to the fun of performing.
Tours
Occasionally we co-ordinate our Youth Companies Play schedules and take two or three one act plays to a local theatre so that our students can experience real theatres and a wider audience can enjoy the productions.
Advanced students may also participate in a full length play to take on tour.
Festival Plays
“The All England Theatre Festivals” are competitive One Act Play Festivals for amateur groups held annually in some South West theatres.
Our Advanced and Intermediate Youth Companies often choose to enter and so have the experience of performing in real theatres to paying audiences, in friendly competition with other Youth and Adult Companies.
We have been performing in these Festivals since 2020 and won countless Awards, but the learning journey for the students is immense.
We strongly encourage our actors to watch all the other plays in the Festival, so we can discuss and learn from all the productions.
We rehearse to the highest level possible, with everyone working together, we plan lighting and sound, costumes and set ~ and then take our play to the Theatre! Participating students say it is the highlight of their year!
Events and Productions
Other events and productions may also include Musical or Poetry Evenings and we will keep you up to date with all Forthcoming Productions and Dates.
Choir
Our Adult Choir meets regularly on a weekday evening to rehearse an eclectic mix of songs. Performances in the adjoining Church for an appreciative audience form a highlight for our singers.
From time to time there will be opportunities to perform to audiences with an accompanying orchestra.
