Vanguard Examinations offer many interesting Subjects and Grades enabling Learners to choose from a variety of Performance and Communication courses to suit their interests and abilities from Preliminary to Advanced Levels.
They inspire candidates to explore literature and performance in an exciting, challenging and fulfilling way. Vanguard Examinations cater for all ages, from young children to adults.
Vanguard Learners develop excellent communication and presentation skills which will benefit them throughout their lives, whatever their career choices.
Through the well structured grades, they learn front line skills, build personal confidence and open new doors to real and imaginary worlds in literature, poetry and performance as well as discovering fascinating playwrights, writers and poets.
Vanguard Shakespeare Examinations help them to foster a real love and appreciation of our greatest writer and will also support school studies and examinations.

LAMDA courses are well known and long established courses which allow students, through practical communication and performance assessments, to gain skills which will significantly enhance their life opportunities. LAMDA’s examinations provide each and every learner with the skills and the confidence to succeed in life. The courses compliment the work of the Vanguard Examinations, and many students follow both courses. The Advanced grades attract UCAS points.
LAMDA’s performance and communication examinations use drama skills to develop self-confidence, physical presence and a strong speaking voice.
Following an Acting course helps to develop a strong speaking voice and good memory skills by learning and performing monologues and duologues. Courses and designed for solo or duologue performances.
Devising courses are designed to develop creativity by exploring ideas and themes, and realising them through devised dramatic performances. Courses are designed for solo or duologue performances.
If you wish to develop a strong speaking voice and memory skills, our Speaking Verse and Prose and Public Speaking courses are designed for individual candidates. Explore a wide range of texts or develop essential skills for constructing and delivering talks, presentations and speeches.

Graded Examinations
Our Graded Examination Courses are designed to give students in-depth knowledge and outstanding performance skills.
There are usually three Levels: Junior – Intermediate – Advanced. Each Level contains several Grades which allow students to learn skills and develop their talents step by step. Each Grade offers new and exciting challenges which lead to external examinations and qualifications.
Some Advanced Level Examinations attract UCAS Points. Students choose scenes or pieces to explore and rehearse. They learn theory appropriate to each Grade and apply it to their work.
The Drama School Exeter offers Music Courses from three prestigious Examination Boards:
LAMDA – Musical Theatre The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art
Graded Examination Courses for Solo or Duologue Performers.
Depending on Grade, students select two or three contrasting scenes in which they can demonstrate both the Acting and Singing skills learnt in their classes.
Students have freedom of choice for some scenes and so can try favourites and gradually explore many new songs and shows from different times and in varying styles.
There are set questions for each Grade. This learning and research supports the student’s ability to interpret their characters and so enhance performances. It builds their knowledge of the History of Musical Theatre and important Composers and Librettists.

Graded Examination Courses for Solo Piano, Violin and Guitar Performers.
Students choose three contrasting selections from the Syllabus for each exam. The Grades take the student on a gradual journey of exploration through a wide variety of music and composers.
The Exam courses provide sound foundations on which students can build their skills and increase their knowledge whilst discovering a fascinating range of music styles.
Sight Reading and Questions on Theory are included in each exam.

Graded Singing Examinations for Solo Performers.
The Syllabus encourages students to discover an eclectic range of singing genres, including Classical, Musical Theatre, Folk and Opera.
Students choose three contrasting songs from the Syllabus and learn supporting Theory to enhance their performances.
The Courses ensure that students learn essential skills and techniques enabling them to perform confidently and successfully.
